46th Chess Olympiad R5: Gukesh and Pragg lead India to a 3-1 win over Netherlands; Stage set for Uzbekistan clash
The most-awaited clash of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad is here; India will face Uzbekistan in the 6th round at Samarkand. In the 5th round, Team India defeated the Netherlands 3-1. Praggnanandhaa defeated Anish Giri, and Gukesh scored a win over Erwin L'Ami. In the Women's section, Team India suffered a tough loss against Poland, where Vaishali lost her game and the other 3 games ended in a draw. The 6th round will start today at 3:30 IST. Open Section: India vs. Netherlands (3-1)
Indian team scored another dominating win in the 5th round. India defeated the Netherlands 3-1. Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh scored dominating wins in their games.
Board 1: R. Praggnanandhaa vs. Anish Giri (1-0)
It was a beautiful game by Pragg; he kept Anish under pressure, and Anish had to find the only moves to hold the position. On the 40th move, Pragg made an error, and Anish had a chance to hold the position, but he made a quick move; after that, Pragg gave him no more chances and won on the 1st board.
Board 2: Jorden van Foreest vs. Arjun Erigaisi (0.5-0.5)
Arjun made a solid draw with black pieces against Jorden.
Board 3: Nihal Sarin vs. Van Wely Loek
Solid as always, Nihal drew on the 3rd board.
Board 4: Erwin L'Ami vs. D. Gukesh
Another masterclass by Gukesh; with this win over Erwin, Gukesh moves to 4.5/5 points. There were doubts about Gukesh's performance before the Olympiad, but I guess everything is crystal clear now.
