Midilesh triumphs at 24th Sant Marti Open 2024 Group B, Vihaan Dawda second

15-year-old Midilesh Ms scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 24th Sant Marti Open Group B (<1950) 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - Vihaan Dawda, Javier Morais Carreras (ESP), Edgar Lopez De Anda (USA) and Aarush Dolas scored 7.5/9. Vihaan secured second place as he had the best tie-breaks among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7510. The top three prizes in Group B were €450, €300 and €200 along with a trophy each. WFM Vrushali Umesh Deodhar scored an impressive 6/9 to score her maiden WIM-norm in Group A. She finished seventh overall and was the highest female finisher of the event. Group A: Vrushali earns her maiden WIM-norm, Vivaan impresses

Harshit Pawar is the top Indian finisher in Group A. He scored 6.5/9 to finish fifth. IM Utsab Chatterjee also scored 6.5/9. He was placed sixth according to tie-breaks. WFM Vrushali Umesh Deodhar scored 6/9 to secure seventh place. She scored a WIM-norm and was also the highest female finisher of the event. The only other woman to make a top ten finish is - WGM Beloslava Krasteva (BUL). She scored 6/9 to be placed ninth. 11-year-old CM Vivaan Vishal Shah scored an impressive 6/9 to finish tenth. He is the youngest top ten finisher of the event. GM Viktor Matviishen (UKR) is the winner of Group A scoring 7/9. This edition had the highest number of players register in Group B in the tournament's history - 225.

A total of 89 players including 4 GMs, 7 IMs and a WGM took part from 16 countries across the world in this nine-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Group A (>1950) tournament. It was organized by C E Sant Marti at Centre Civic Sant Marti in Barcelona, Spain from 13th to 21st July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
